WEEK 1 ACTIVITIES
activity intention
This activity is designed to function as a hybrid between an “ice breaker” activity and an “initiative”. While it requires some level of strategy, the objective remains low-risk and the ways in which to accomplish the objective are minimal and are more focused on “how we are being together” versus “what is our tactical approach”.
activity set up
Lay the parachute out flat and have all group members grab or share a handle. Have the sloth nearby as well as the Flop Balls and the squishy ball.
Objective
To help the sloth get rid of its fleas as fast as possible!
rules
Begin with everyone holding or sharing a parachute handle.
Put the sloth in the middle of the parachute and add the five flop balls and the squishy ball.
Explain to the students that the sloth unfortunately has a flea problem and it's our job to help it get rid of them.
On “go”, the students are trying to work together to get all of the fleas off the parachute without the sloth falling off.
If the sloth falls off before all the fleas, the group must start over.
For a bonus challenge keep a timer and continue playing challenging the group to get the fastest time possible.
safety
Remind students to watch their elbows when they are raising the parachute up and down.
